PTA Meeting- Nov 3

(6:30 Executive Board/ 7:30 General Meeting )

Following a short PTA business meeting, Dennis Hackett from MCPS Food Services will tell us all about the food that's served in Cashell's cafeteria every day. He will also bring food samples!

Then Dr. Amy Weichel and Nancy Ruffner, Cashell's school nurse, will present important information about H1N1 Flu and Lyme Disease.  Many families in our community have been affected by these illnesses, and it is important that we all have accurate and up-to-date information. Both speakers will be ready to answer your questions about H1N1 Flu and Lyme Disease, and provide the information you need to protect and care for your family.

As with all PTA meetings, free babysitting and refreshments will be provided.

Domino's Dough Raiser- Nov 3

Mark your calendar for Tuesday November 3rd…
It's our next Domino's Dough Raiser!

The Cashell Elementary School PTA and our local Domino’s Pizza on Georgia Avenue are teaming up again in November for another fantastic "DOUGH RAISER!"

Here's how it works:
When you place your order on Tuesday November 3rd, let the Domino's employee know you’re from Cashell ES.  When you pick up your order or the delivery person brings it to your door, turn in the completed coupon on the back of Wednesday's flyer. (If you forget the coupon, it's okay, but it helps Domino's keep track of the Dough Raiser money.)  Then Domino's will donate a portion of the sale to our PTA!

It's a simple, yummy way to earn money...and that's why we call it a "Dough Raiser!"

BETTER YET...Our November PTA meeting is on the same night!  So, you can feed the kids a quick, delicious dinner from Domino's, and still have plenty of time to attend the meeting!

BEST YET...Participate in this month's Domino's Dough Raiser and you could WIN 2 FREE PIZZAS!

Each month, we will randomly draw a name from the coupons turned in during the previous month's Domino's Dough Raiser and that lucky family will get 2 FREE PIZZAS on the current month's Dough Raiser night.

The lucky winner from our October Dough Raiser is THE CARSTEA FAMILY! Congratulations!

Remember, you must participate in the Dough Raiser and turn in your Dough Raiser coupon in order to qualify for the raffle.

So order your pizza on Tuesday November 3rd:
Domino's Pizza

Cashell Variety Show
The Cashell Variety show was a a tremendous send off to spring break!  Thank you Madame Director Dawn Conine, row moms, emcee, back stage crew, art crew, sound, photo and videography folks, and, of course, the Cashell performers for a great show!  Many thanks to everyone who helped with this marquis labor of love.

Young Rembrandts

A new session of Young Rembrandts will start  April 14 and run through June 2 on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 in Room 15.  The theme is cartoon drawing.  Please be sure to sign up your budding artists for this fun experience.

New Cashell Courtyard

We could use some help from folks who have experience writing grants to request money for our new courtyard.

Volunteers for Moving Cashell back to its new School

The new school is going to be ready this summer and we're going to pack up Cashell at North Lake and get ready to move in to the new school.  If you didn't have a chance to help with the move to North Lake, now is your chance to be part of history.  If you helped move Cashell to North lake, you'll definitely want to close the loop and help get things packed for the move to our brand new school!

PTA Help

As we approach the end of the school year (who can believe it?), we've started planning for next year's events and we need your help.  There are some key PTA positions to fill including president (it's time for someone else to have the fun?), co-treasurer, secretary, and Communique editor.  There is always room for people who want to have a great time getting to know their neighbors and helping with our kids and school.  The Cashell PTA rocks and it's all because of the tremendous energy and commitment of you and your friends and friends to be.

Communique

The Cashell Communique is ready for your reading pleasure.  The on-line version is available now at http://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/cashelles/pta/communique/200904.pdf .

Communique President's Message
By Patrick Dunn

Spring is in the air and what better way to start the season than with the first-ever Family Dance and Silent Auction. It was a great success! Many people contributed to this new event including co-chairs Susan Phillips and Ellen Dunn, auction coordinators Debra VanHorn and Joyce Gardner, and graphic designer Christine Cutino. The Dance and Auction was a great way to get out and meet some friends, compete for neat items and dance the night away. This was a wonderful fund raising event that will really help the PTA fund projects in the new Cashell. Please see Susan Phillips' article later in the Communique for more details.

The Cashell Variety Show was once again a stellar affair and rightly claimed the title- "We are the Stars!" Many thanks to Dawn Conine and her supporting cast who helped organize and run the show. From the props, the decorations, the music, the costumes- it was an evening filled with entertainment by our Cashell kids. It was great to see so many Cashell stars shine through the night.

Congratulations to Bar-T for their winning of the Cashell before and after school child care contract in a competitive renewal award process. Many thanks to the members of the parent and staff committee who volunteered their time to review the proposals and interview the candidates: Meredith Singer, Lois Freedman, Jane Carstea, Walt McDonough, myself and Mrs. Stamoulis. Thanks also go to Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Stamoulis who organized the meetings and kept us well provisioned.

The PTA sponsored a visit of children's book authors to Cashell the first week in April. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to meet the authors of the books they read, and get an autographed copy of the book if they wish. Thank you to Mrs. Skladany who organizes the event and ensures the students get the most out of this unique opportunity.

This month's activities are an example of the energy and dedication of your Cashell PTA. With the approach of the school year end, it's time to consider how you might be able to help next year with the PTA as a committee chair or PTA officer. We're going to need a president, co-treasurer, recording secretary, and there's always room for folks who want to meet their fellow parents and have a good time helping their kids and their school. Don't forget all the help we will need helping to pack up once again and organize at the new Cashell. Please consider adding PTA activities to your busy schedule. It's an important way to help enrich the educational experience of your children!

Our next PTA meeting will be help in the Media Center at 7:30 pm on May 5. Childcare will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there!
